Description
Centurion MkV/1 tanks of A Squadron, 1st Australian Armoured Regiment and M113A1 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) of B Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, setting up the second camp during Operation Matilda. The vehicle in the foreground is an M125A1 81mm Mortar Carrier; the mortar mount can be seen as well as the aiming stake to the left. An A1-Bell 47G-2 Sioux helicopter (Possum) is landing in the centre of the leaguer / laager (fortified camp). Matilda was a large reconnaissance and ambush operation conducted by Australian forces between 15 and 26 January 1970.
