Description
NX11478 Corporal (Cpl) Sydney Peter Campbell, 2/2nd Battalion. Cpl Campbell escaped from Greece in a party of nine after the allied withdrawal. They eventually returned to their units in Egypt via Turkey and Cyprus. Cpl Campbell was killed in action in Papua on 8 November 1942.
Photograph taken by NX1951 Corporal (later Lieutenant (Lt)) Reginald Norman Blain of B Company 2/2 Australian Infantry Battalion while on service in Ceylon, Syria and Palestine. Lt Blain was killed in action on the Kokoda Trail on 20 October 1942. Captions were provided by Lt W. A. Bell of the same battalion and a personal friend of Lt Blain.
