Description

Knights Cross of the Iron Cross 1939 - 1945. A cross pattee of black iron with a silver beaded frame made in two parts and soldered together. The obverse has a swastika in the centre and the date '1939' on the lower arm. The reverse has the date '1813' on the lower arm. The suspender is an elongated 'paper-clip' type loop attached to a fixed ring on the top arm. The silver frame is stamped '935' and has the makers mark of '4'. It has the original neck ribbon that has a central broad red stripe with white and black edges. The tie straps are field grey material with press studs on the end.

History / Summary

Oberfeldwebel Hermann Linder was born in Ebingen/Württemberg, Germany on 5 November, 1914 and was a member of 2 Battalion, Jäger-Regiment 207. He was awarded this Knight's Cross on the 19 June 1943 for an unknown deed in the Russian Front, where he was a platoon leader. He was killed on 8 July 1943 at the Kuban bridgehead, Soviet Union.
