Osaka, Japan. 1945. These Australian prisoners-of-war (POWs) were released on Kyusai, Southern Japan and hitchhiked 200 miles to reach Allied occupation troops. They lived off the land and by asking for food from Japanese civilians. They encountered a little resentment but no outright aggression.
