Pattern 14 Enfield No 3 Mk I* Rifle
Description
Pattern 14 Enfield No 3 Mk I* bolt action rifle. Receiver stamped ERA and serial number plus 2 * and arrow within a D. Full wood stock and top handguard. Butt marked IE within a circle and PATT.'14 with an arrow in a D. Complete with long range volley sights on the receiver and fore end.
History / Summary
The arrow with a 'D' indicates that it was used in Australia possibly for evaluation purposes. The Pattern 14 was originally designed to replace the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle but World War One stopped development. American companies, mainly Winchester and Remington, produced the weapons. Many were sent to the UK and used by the Home Guard during the Second World War.
