Description
Thesis "The development of Sir John Monash as a military commander". Examines Monash's development as a military commander and then analyses his performance to determine the accuracy of the popular view. Looks at Monash's pre war and civil careers, his command of the 4th Brigade at Gallipoli and the 3rd Division on the Western Front , his command of the the Australian Corps in 1918. Also the extent to which his success was attributable to factors other than his generalship, assessments of Monash by his contemporaries (British and Australian) and assessment of British commanders on the Western Front, especially Haig and Monash's relationship to them. Includes cibachrome maps. PhD, University of New South Wales, 1982.
