Description

Thesis "Class, Politics and War : a socio economic study of the Uitlanders of the Wirwatersrand, 1897 to 1902". Analysis of the division within, and the varying interests of the Uitlander community, in order to explain why and how the immediate post Boer War Johannesburg and Transvaal Governments reflected the interests and demands of the industrial capital. Discusses the economic structure of the Witwatersrand (Rand) and examines the new Rand constituted along the lines which favoured industrial capital, racist labour practices which stifled the development of a radical white labour force.
