History / Summary
This rifle was originally manufactured as a Pattern 1856 sergeants model short rifle in 1866. It has been converted to a breech loading Snider-Enfield MkII** probably in the early 1870's. The markings indicate that it was purchased by the Tasmanian Government. These rifles were also used in New South Wales.
