Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No 6 Prototype Rifle
Prototype Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No 6 Rifle. Receiver marked MA LITHGOW S.M.L.E. III* 1944. There are no markings on the butt, fore-end or bolt apart from proof stamps on the knox form. The fore-end has a wide single groove on each side about 5 inches long and the butt has a hinged rubber kick plate. This rifle is similar to the British SMLE No 5 'jungle carbine' with a flash eliminator on the barrel.
This rifle is a pre production run prototype and has no serial number. A Queensland fireams collector obtained it from the Lithgow Small Arms Factory by exchange.
