Description

Manuscript titled 'Peace in war' written in 1975 by G.M Ball, who served in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as 404227 Flight Lieutenant (F/Lt) Godfrey Massey Ball. The bound manuscript is a typed 336 page account of Ball's life as an Empire Air Training Scheme pilot from the time of his enlistment in July 1940 to his discharge from the RAAF in January 1946. He flew Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft, he trained to`Wings' standard in Australia and was then posted to England where he flew with the Royal Air Force Fighter Command returning to Australia from Suez in September 1945. The writing is evocative of the atmosphere of war time training and operations especially in describing the feelings of the pilot.
