Sergeant O'Dwyer was taking part in Platypus VII operation in Borneo in which several men were parachuted in, landing on what would prove to be a Japanese camp. Party Leader Flight Lieutenant A R Martin was caught in a tree and the other three members of the party landed in the camp, and these three, including Sergeant O'Dwyer, were killed by the Japanese.
