< Previous RecordLetter from Leslie Neane to the editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, Perth, 19 May 1919. In the letter Leslie, aged 10, mentions an enclosed letter which was found in a bottle on Belacatta beach in April 1919 and is forwarding it as per request of the writer. Attached is the letter found in the bottle from 3273 Gunner Edward Charles Thomas Nolan, 6th Reinforcements, Medium Trench Mortar Battery. In his letter Nolan mentions that it is a farewell message from the Battery and that it was placed in a bottle and thrown off the S.S. Osterley, which left Sydney on the 10th of February, two hours sailing from Fremantle. Also attached to this letter is a note which reads: 'Exhibit document 181.1. Passed from The Sydney Morning Herald to the Official Historian, Some Years Ago.'
