Description

Microfilm of typescript (with more detailed handwritten additions) and original handwritten diary kept by WFM Clemens during his work as district officer and coast watcher in the Solomon Islands particularly Guadalcanal. Detailed entries for most days. The diary covers January 1942 the evacuation of the Solomon Islands, includes comments on the Japanese activities, war preparations, provivision of supplies and general administration. May 1942 the occupation of Guadalcanal comments on the use of radios, aircraft & bush scouts, knowledge of a secret cache of weapons and intelligence of the location of Japanese forces and naval vessels. August 1942 the battle for Guadalcanal. The diary ends in December 1942 with Clemens' repatriation to Australia.
