Bougainville. August 1945. Japanese envoy Captain Takenaka, was conveyed on HMAS Lithgow to Lieutenant General S. G. Savige's headquarters to receive surrender terms. The envoy was searched on board the warship and an armed guard was in attendance during the voyage to headquarters.
