Description
General Allenby, staff and attaches, entering Jerusalem through the Jaffa Gate. The guard of honour was comprised of English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh troops, who are seen on the right, whilst Australia and New Zealand are represented by those on the left. The Arabs call this gate in the wall 'The Friend'. Close by this ancient gate is another made for the Kaiser to enter when he visited Jerusalem in 1898, but now the huge iron doors are rarely opened.
