Description
Captain Eugene Gorman, K.C., the Commissioner for the Australian Comforts Fund, and a prominent racing man in Australia, organised a race meeting in Palestine, which took place just before some of the troops moved across to Egypt. It was a tremendous success and was watched by 8,000 spectators, many of whom were Arabs, who perhaps derived more enjoyment from the meeting than the diggers themselves. A Tote was organised, and in the true Australian traditions, celebrations were continued well into the night. Here, Captain Gorman instucts the jockey.
