Italian Vetterli-Vitali Model 1870/87/15 Rifle : Italian Army
Description
Italian Vetterli-Vitali Model 1870/87 bolt action rifle. Breech marked PP within an oval over TORRE ANNUNZIATA over 1889 and the serial number. The butt is also stamped with the serial number on the right side and an arsenal mark on the left dated 1916. This rifle is a 1916 conversion from the original 1870/87 to take the 6.5 mm ammunition. It is complete with a cleaning rod and brown leather sling.

This rifle was collected by the Military History Section at Tobruk. Commonly reported to have been used only by Blackshirt Troops.
