Description

"Roads to War"(item 1) subsequently retitled "Memories at War : an Australian with England's Royal Air Force" (item 2). Tells the story of McBride's war time experiences with the Royal Air Force first as an administrative and special duties officer and ending as a member of 101 Beach Squadron in Combined Operations in the first wave of landings on D Day in France. He describes building the flying boat base at Addu Atoll in the Maldive Islands, the retreat from Burma along the Burma Road, his service in Chiang Kai Shek's army, the training of a commando force in India, his repatriation to Britain and volunteering for the newly formed Combined Operations Group. After France he returned to Australia through war time United States.
