KIA PASSAGE, SANTA ISABEL ISLAND, SOLOMON ISLANDS, 1944-03. LIEUTENANT (LT) F.W. MCCONAGHY, RANVR, A MEMBER OF THE STAFF OF THE DEPUTY SUPERVISING INTELLIGENCE OFFICER (DSIO), NAVAL INTELLIGENCE DIVISION, RAN, HANDING OVER SUPPLIES FROM A CATALINA FLYING BOAT TO LT F.A. ("SNOWY") RHOADES, RANVR, A COASTWATCHER BASED AT THE NORTHERN END OF SANTA ISABEL ISLAND. LT MCCONAGHY HAD BROUGHT THE SUPPLIES FROM THE DSIO'S HEADQUARTERS AT LUNGGA ON GUADALCANAL, THE NERVE CENTRE FOR THE NETWORK OF COASTWATCHERS THAT OPERATED IN THE SOLOMON ISLANDS. THE SERVICEMEN ARE (LEFT TO RIGHT): UNKNOWN NAVAL OFFICER, POSSIBLY OF THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY; LT MCCONAGHY; LT RHOADES; UNKNOWN AIRMAN OF THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE (RNZAF); UNKNOWN RNZAF AIRMAN. THE CATALINA IS AN RNZAF AIRCRAFT.
