Jackson, Donald Robert
Family history and autobiographical material on Jackson. Covers his training at Royal Military College Duntroon, service in the 1939-1945 war. The latter included service with the Sydney University Regiment and Darwin Mobile Force; then 2/1st Infantry Battalion in Palestine, Egypt, Syria and Lybia, the Western Desert (Sollum, Bardia and Tobruk); Greece as liaison officer at General Headquarters with British Troops and capture by the Germans at Tolos in 1941. Escape from Greece to Crete and return to Egypt, convalescence, operations with 1 Australian Corps in Palestine and Syria, Syria with 24 Brigade and involvement with Special Operations Section in Cairo, Battle of El Alamein. Return to Australia, service on intellgience staff HQ Allied Land Forces and HQ New Guinea Force, transfer to 2/28 Battalion, training in North Queensland and operations in Morotai, Labuan, Borneo. Command of 67th Infantry Battalion, to Japan with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force later commands the force. Also includes an account of his family in the 1914-1918 war and of his father, Major General Jackson's relationship with General Sturdee and the idea of the "Brisbane Line".
