"To Kokoda and Beyond: the story of the 39th Infantry Battalion, 1941-1943". Account of the fighting along the Kokoda Trail and in the coastal swamps of the Buna - Sanananda - Gona Area and of the events which led immediately up to that fighting. Chapters cover the formation of the unit; the voyage to Moresby; the Fortress at Moresby; to Kokoda; events at Deniki and Isurava and Koitaki; the struggle for the Buna - Gona Beachhead; the struggle for the beachhead at Haddy's Village (Gona West) and Huggins' Road Block and the Sanananda Track; and in 1943 the home coming and incorporation into other units. The manuscript was published by Melbourne University Press in 1988.
