Description
Local highland natives crowding around a Douglas Dakota C47 aircraft of the united states air force, on the airstrip at Bena Bena in the Mount Hagen area. Several American missionaries are approaching the aircraft to board it for an evacuation flight, probably to Port Moresby, that will take them away from the danger of killing or capture by Japanese forces. Shortly before, the aircraft had landed with several members of M Special Unit, Services Reconnaissance Department, Allied Intelligence Bureau, who were to make their way as members of Locust and Whiting parties overland to the north coast of New Guinea.
