Description
Lee-Enfield Mk I Rifle. Action marked Crown over VR ENFIELD 1898 LE I. Butt stamped with the Enfield Armoury roundel over I over I with J. SUTTON. This rifle is complete with all parts, a brown leather sling and a steel foresight cover. The cleaning rod is a replica.
History / Summary
This rifle was issued to 29 Sergeant Joseph H Sutton, who served with A Squadron, Commonwealth Horse during the Boer War. He sailed from Sydney on 18 February 1902 and returned on 11 August 1902. Aged 26 on enlistment he was a miner by trade and came from Sorrento in Victoria.
