Description

Australian Army khaki fur felt slouch hat. The brim is edged with narrow grosgrain ribbon and has brass fittings to turn up the side. The leather sweat band is marked in gold with a broad arrow and 'MONTCASTLE 1989 / MADE IN AUSTRALIA / 55'. Complete with chin strap and puggaree. The turn up bears an anodised gold aluminium 'stay bright' Royal Australian Army Medical Corps badge.

History / Summary

Captain Jane G Morris, Royal Australian Army Medical Corps, served in Northern Iraq during 1991 as a medical officer in 'Charlie' team of the Australian Service Contingent Operation Habitat. The medical team had a roving commission to provide treatment to Kurdish refugees who were fleeing Iraqi forces in the wake of the Gulf War. The base camp of the Australian Contingent was at Giripit.
