Collection relating to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) service of Major Michael John Prain, Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Israel, 1985-1986.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection consists of three identification cards and two letters related to Prain's service as an observer with the UNTSO in Israel from 1985 to 1986. The collection includes Prain's UNTSO identification card and driver's permit, a membership card to the Jerusalem Hilton UN Club, and a letter Prain sent to his parents in May 1985, describing the scenery around Observation Post 51 in the Golan Heights, his work with the UNTSO, and his living conditions. The collection also includes a letter of introduction from Desmond Martin of Wodonga, Australia to Ibrahim Hussiene Effendi of Gaza, Palestine, recalling Martin's service [as VX31564] in Palestine during the Second World War, his interactions with Effendi's people, and introducing Prain.
