Description
Informal portrait of 19251 Able Seaman Geoffrey Rosevear DSM, HMAS Sydney (II). Born in Launceston, Tasmania, Rosevear enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 12 February 1929. He served aboard HMAS Sydney, and was one of six sailors awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for gallantry during the action with the Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni, off Cape Spada on 19 July 1940. Rosevear was among the crew lost when the HMAS Sydney was sunk by the German ship Kormoran on 20 November 1941. Caption on reverse reads "Geoff with his big guns".
