Description
Grave of NX77698 Private Jack Smith 2/17th Australian Infantry Battalion. A bank clerk from Young, New South Wales, Pte Smith enlisted in December 1941 and embarked for service in the Middle East on 23 August 1942. In July 1943, after his return to Australia, Pte Smith sailed with the 2/17 Battalion to Milne Bay, New Guinea; three months later, on 11 October 1943, Pte Smith died of wounds, aged 21 years. He is buried at Bomana War Cemetery, Port Moresby, New Guinea.
