Description

Studio portrait of WX6295 Sergeant (Sgt) Harold Arthur Beames, 2/28 Battalion. An accountant from Kalgoorlie, WA, Beames enlisted on 13 July 1940, aged 22 years. After several months training at Melville Camp, Fremantle, Sgt Beames embarked for overseas service in the Middle East on 4 Janurary 1941. Following further promotion to Warant Officer Class 2, Beames attended an officer training course and was soon promoted to Lieutenant (Lt). Lt Beames was killed in action on 22 July 1942 and was buried at El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
