Collection relating to 1293 Staff Sergeant John (Jack) Rook, 38th Battalion
Honor Roll 34th Fortress Company. Honour boards were often created to record the enlistment and fates of their members who enlisted for service. This honour board records the names of men of the Australian Engineers militia unit of the 34th Fortress Company of the 3rd Military District in Melbourne who enlisted for service in the AIF. The names are arranged by year of enlistment and those who were killed in action are noted with an asterisk (1914: Lieutenant Walter Allan Leckie, later 90th Field Company Royal Engineers, killed in action 21 February 1916; Sergeant Leslie George Wales, 6th Field Company, Australian Engineers, died of wounds 1 November 1916; Corporal E Booth [believed to be Captain Eric Robert Booth, 29th Battalion, killed in action 23 March 1917]; Sapper F Holst [2925 Frederick Giffen Holst, 60th Battalion, killed in action 19 July 1916]). 1916: Sapper J Curry; Captain (later Major) William Affleck Adams DSO, killed in action 15 October 1917. Collection relating to 1293 Staff Sergeant John (Jack) Rook, 38th Battalion.
