Description
Informal portrait of VX76443 Staff Sergeant William Allan Campbell Russell. An annotation on back reads 'WAC Russell ex Jesselton, Ranau.'
The elephant tusk, blowpipe, and woven hat were gifts from friends among the indigenous Dayak people. Russell and Kulang, a Dusun leader of the village of Manaud, worked together on Operation Agas 1. The elephant tusk was originally hung over Kulang’s fireplace. Kulang gave it to Russell as a parting gift.
