Diary No.6 of Rupert Major Downes, 13 June - 24 August 1917
Description
Diary relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Major Downes, Head Quarters, Anzac Mounted Division. This diary, written between 13 June 1917 and 24 August 1917, partly written for his wife to read, begins by listing the places he traveled between January and April 1917. It also covers the feelings he has after he returned from seeing his wife; her return journey on the P&O ship Mongolia after it was struck by a mine; his dilemma at choosing between running the 14th General Hospital or becoming Deputy Director of Medical Services and his work after taking on the position as Deputy Director of Medical Services of the Desert Mounted Corps.
