Post Office Telegraphists at war work – Telegraph Less
Description
Donia Nachshen was born into a Russian Jewish family who migrated to London in 1906 to escape anti-Jewish Pogroms. By the Second World War had established herself as an illustrator influenced by Art Deco and Russian folk art. She created loosely sketched designs for the Board of Trade’s ‘Make Do and Mend’ Campaign (of which the AWM holds an example) and more refined designs for the General Post Office. Nachshen was one of the few female poster designers who worked on propaganda campaigns.
