Description
One of a series of patriotic work incentive posters based on the structure of the American flag commissioned by the United States Government’s Division of Information, Office of Emergency Management in 1941, ahead of America’s official involvement in Second World War. The poster series was designed by Leo Lionni (1910-1999) and it exemplifies Lionni’s expert ability to combine photographic imagery with modernist, asymmetrical layouts. Lionni used his experience in advertising to visually relate patriotic ideals to his audience, and he is credited as having played a key role in raising photographic poster illustration to new heights of inventiveness.
