Collection relating to 997 Herbert Eugene Luckwald
Description
Outdoor portrait of 997 Corporal Herbert Eugene Luckwald, 13th Australian Light Horse Regiment (front row, second from left), nine other AIF soldiers and a ?local guide/ host and a schoolboy at St Andrews Square. Cpl Luckwald was recuperating at hospital in Edinburgh for ten days. A letter to his mother on the back states:..."I am feeling a bit better but I am going before a board shortly. I think I will be classed as medically fit but Dentally unfit so that will take a couple of months to fix me up. I will keep away from France if possible. There are some men here have been here for 12 months and have never heard a shot fired yet."
