58 page album relating to the service of NX20102 Gunner (Gnr) Leonard Accroache Piper, 2/3 Anti-Tank Regiment, Middle East, Second World War. The album has a brown cover and contains 155 items, including 150 photographs, a 2/3 Anti-Tank Regiment reunion ribbon (glued inside the frontispiece), two original colour patches, a discharge certificate, and an invitation to a 'welcome home' event in Ingleburn. The 150 photographs were mostly taken by Troop Sergeant Dick Johnson, 2/3 Anti-Tank Regiment. Also glued inside the front cover is a photograph of the SS Orion in a cardboard folder. The photographs in the album are of: RMS Orion passing under the Sydney Harbour Bridge; 11 Battery in training in Palestine; tourist views of Jerusalem and Ceylon; Tobruk hospital and its ruins; HMAS Waterhen being hit and sinking in Tobruk Harbour; a broadside from HMAS Stuart at Tobruk; German tanks and planes knocked out by anti-tank fire; a '2 pounder' firing in Syria; Syrian children and landscapes; views of Lebanon and the route from Palestine through Egypt to El Alamein; captured German positions, equipment and flag; a German gravesite; the convoy to Australia including views of the ships New Amsterdam, Aquitania and Queen Mary; views of Labuan, Borneo, including the Australian cemetery; views of Ingleburn post office and train station; views of Sydney Harbour and Drummoyne; and a series of colourised commercial prints of scenes in Jaffa. The album includes images of the Australian cemetery at El Alamein, and the war graves of NX34557 Gnr Milton Turner (captioned R Turner) 11 Bty, NX59943 Gnr John Albert Smithers 11 Bty, NX56450 Sgt Colin Thomas Everett 11 Bty, and NX24937 Gnr Reginald Wilfred Chapman. Many people are identified in the captions, including NX7561 Leslie John Piper (Gnr Leonard Piper's brother), Bill Wynnarol, NX55761 Sidney James Newal, NX20468 James Fisher, J Coombs, Dick Johnson, L Woodford, B Kerr, R Seegar, E Treleaven, R Jobson, A Light, J Smithers, D Clifford, J Woodford, C Anderson, S Trethewy, R Evans, W Hutchinson, D Walker, Bill Dunn, QX7705 Vincent Sebastian Bruce Kuhn, Bob Smith, Harry Bainbridge. On page 26 the album has a picture of Gnr Piper's father 3118 Leslie Piper in his First World War uniform. Pasted in on page 21 are two original felt colour patches of the 2-3rd Anti-Tank Regiment. A discharge certificate and Ingleburn Municipal Citizens Welcome Home Committee social invitation (page 25) have been pasted in. Family photographs have been removed from pages 27 to 39, and pages 41 to 56.
