Portrait of 417171 Sergeant George William Finch, 1 Bomb And Gunnery School Evans Head. A salesman prior to enlisting in the Army on 18 December 1939, Sgt Finch went on to enlist in the Royal Australian Air Force on 19 August 1941. During a drogue towing and free gun under tail gunnery exercise on 7 June 1943, an accident occurred which caused Sgt Finch’s aircraft to crash. Sgt Finch died of injuries sustained in the accident. He was 24 years old.
