Studio portrait of 5445 Private (Pte) Oswald Andrew Rixon, 8th Battalion from Gringenbroung, NSW. A 21 year old station hand prior to enlisting on 10 February 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 17th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 4 April 1916. After traveling via Egypt and the United Kingdom, he proceeded to France where he served on the Western Front until he returned to Australia, arriving on 29 August 1919.
