Description

Pre-war formal portrait of VX37300 Acting Corporal John Baptist Valli, 2/21st Battalion. A draper and bandmaster from Bedigo, Victoria, Valli enlisted on 13 July 1940. He was posted to the 2/21st Battalion as part of the Military Band and embarked for overseas service on 13 December 1941. Cpl Valli was in Ambon as the Japanese forces advanced and became a prisoner of war. At the end of the war, it was reported that he had been executed by the Japanese, date unknown.
