Description
Studio portrait of 6022 Private Joseph George Hodson, 19th Reinforcements 7th Battalion standing holding swagger stick. An engineers apprentice, at Thomson & Co PTY LTD Engineering Works, enlisted at the age of 18 years, six months in 1915. Transferred to Special Munition Company at Ascot Vale and was discharged to make munitions in October 1915. In April 1916 he re-enlisted and was posted to the 7th Battalion. He embarked aboard the HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 28 July 1916. On arrival in England he underwent further training and was posted to the 37th Battalion. Hodson was killed in action on 4 October 1917 in Belgium.
Annotation on reverse reads; 'Pte J G Hodson 19th Reinforcements 7th Battalion 6.7.16'.
