Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX137966 Sapper Oswell Peter Mansfield, 6 Australian Army Topographical Survey Company, Second Australian Imperial Force, New Guinea, c 1943-1945.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one letter from Sapper Oswell Peter ‘Oz’ Mansfield to VF510721 Signaller Winnie Boyle. This letter was written by Sapper Mansfield during his service with 6 Australian Army Topographical Survey Company in New Guinea, between 1943 and 1945 and was originally accompanied a souvenir letter opener. In his letter, Sapper Mansfield writes about the creation of the souvenir letter opener, which he made from salvaged parts of a Japanese Zero aircraft, an American Flying Fortress aircraft, and an American Cobra aircraft.
