Description

Recording of the song titled, 'Just a khaki soldier and a little maid', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Composed by 'Victoria' , a pseudynom used by Lily Bell who wrote the lyrics and melody with the piano accompaniment arranged by James E Dodd. Produced by Chris Latham, with Christina Wilson as vocalist and Alan Hicks on piano. These works were performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.

Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This song is so special and has a mesmeric quality. It is just verses with no chorus and very Australian. It is hypnotic and pulls you right in. Recording this song was like going into a strange dream - it is a very beautiful song. The song is pure and honest with great descriptions in the lyrics. It looks so simple on paper but this song was a real discovery. It is hard to understand why some songs have such a strong impact that they go right through you, but this song really did.'
