Description

Recording of the song titled 'When the great red dawn is shining', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Composed by Evelyn Sharpe with lyrics written by Edward Lockton. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin as vocalist (tenor), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 17 January 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.

Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a lovely tune and is Sharpe's most famous song for good reason. It drips with sentiment and is beautiful. It is a killer and just fantastic. The lyrics narrate the combination of being away from home and being away from love.'
