[Sound recording] But a short time to live
Description
Recording of the song titled 'But a short time to live', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics composed by poet Leslie Coulson, who died during the First World War, with music composed by Leo Russotto. Produced by Chris Latham, with Christina Wilson as vocalist and Alan Hicks on piano.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a beautiful song but very, very difficult to perform. It features a hyperactive piano part that is reflective of Rachmaninoff. It is a more episodic song than some with a structure that is less clear and has been beautifully written. It features melodramatic elements and has very lush harmonies with a very sweet harmonic language. This is one of the gems of the project.'
