[Sound recording] Would you believe it?
Recording of "Would you believe it?", created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by Clifford Grey with music composed by Nat D Ayer. Produced by Chris Latham, with David Hidden as vocalist and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 20 December 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a very funny song. The singer really got into the performance. It features double entrendre and is quite saucy if you look into it. It is extremely witty work and is very repetitive. It sticks in the memory which is an artistry in itself. This is not an easy song to sing although it sounds easy. It is a music hall song that is cleverly titilating without being offensive.'
