[Sound recording] Forty-nine and in the army
Recording of the song titled 'Forty-nine and in the army', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Composed by Bert Lee with lyrics written by Robert Patrick Weston. Produced by Chris Latham, with David Hidden as vocalist (baritone) and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 16 August 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a funny song. There is nothing wrong with the music – it is well made and good. It features the music hall convention of repeating the chorus at the end so that the audience can join in for the second. The song is designed to be catchy and to teach through repetition.'
