Description

Recording of the song titled, 'Thora', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by Weatherly and music composed by Adams. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin as vocalist and Alan Hicks on piano. These works were performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.

Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is an unusually really good song and would be in the top ten of those that were recorded for the Music and the First World War project. It is a very pretty song with a piano part that sounds a lot like Schubert. It has a music box type of sound. It turns and get rid of all the spinning wheel music - this is a music term used to refer to the perpetual motion of music. This is used in the chorus but not in the verse. The song fits the tragedy of love lost archetype. The lyrics talk of someone who loved too little in life and too well in death - the narrator's girlfriend has died and he has realised that he didn't value her enough. The song becomes pure when the spinning wheel music is removed. It pulls back just before it becomes too melodramatic and is very effective. It has a great ending.'
