[Sound recording] Coming Home
Recording of the song titled, 'Coming Home', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by D (May) Eardley-Wilmot with music composed by Charles Willeby. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin as vocalist (tenor), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 14 February 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This song is light and beautiful. It floats and the singer has an Irish tenor quality voice. The end section on the last page is quite pretty and this is a superb song that has been perfectly written. The song was written before the end of the war and it is thought that the words refer to how the war is over for the people that the lyricist is treating as a nurse. The song has been written by an English composer and lyricist. There is restraint in this song and profound sentiment. It is an affecting song that feels true. There is no distinction between art music and popular music here. The song has been written as art music even though it would have been a popular song.'
