[Sound recording] A Soldier's Thoughts Of Home
Recording of the song titled, 'A Soldier's Thoughts Of Home', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by Reginald Walter Jones, who served with the AIF during the First World War, with music composed by James Dodd. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin as vocalist (tenor) and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 12 February 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a gorgeous and particularly beautiful chorus. It features a lovely turn of phrase and is full of sentiment. It has an unusual and attractive melody. Great beauty and honesty about this song - there is something that feels emotionally true. If you put this song in a theatre show, it would make people cry. The song is about loneliness and being distant. The words are very evocative and the song is very sweet.'
