NORFOLK, ENGLAND. C. 1944-07. NO. 455 (BEAUFIGHTER) SQUADRON RAAF WITH COASTAL COMMAND, AT RAF STATION LANGHAM, OPENED AN AIR CREW CANTEEN ALONGSIDE THE OPERATIONS ROOM WHERE AIR CREW CAN OBTAIN A HASTY MEAL, AFTER BEING BRIEFED AND BEFORE LEAVING ON AN OPERATION, OR IMMEDIATELY ON RETURNING FROM AN ATTACK. CREWS EATING ONE OF THE FIRST MEALS SERVED IN THE CANTEEN WERE CALLED AT 1 A.M., TOOK OFF BEFORE DAWN AND SIGHTED A CONVOY AND ATTACKED IN HALF LIGHT BEFORE SUNRISE. HEAVY FLAK FAILED TO STOP THEM AND SEVERAL ENEMY VESSELS WERE EITHER SUNK OR DAMAGED BEFORE THE ATTACK WAS BROKEN OFF AND THE SQUADRON RETURNED TO BASE WITHOUT LOSS TO AIRCRAFT.
