Description

Letters relating to the First World War service of 9470 Captain Thomas Charles Richmond "Rich" Baker, DFC, MM, 6th Field Artillery Brigade, 1916-1917. File includes copies of letters written to family and covers his artillery and communications activities in France while attached to 16th Battery, Australian Field Artillery. This file includes photostat copies of letters from Egypt, France and Belgium 1916-1917. These copies were made by the Australian War Memorial in [unknown]; location of the originals is unknown. In one of these letters Baker describes the acts for which his Military Medal was awarded, although modestly admits that he "scarcely know[s] what it was for", stating "I just did my best, that's all".
